Life in OM: Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

This year alone 192,000 husbands, fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and sons will be diagnosed with the disease.

27,000 will die from it.

It is the 2nd leading cause of non-skin cancer deaths in men in the United States.

Prostate Cancer is one of the most treatable cancers when detected early with "cure" rates at 100%.

If you or your loved ones are over the age of 40 ask your doctor about getting a prostate cancer screening test.

It could save their lives.

On February 7, 2008 my Grandfather lost his battle to this horrible disease.

Prostrate cancer awareness month is celebrated in different countries in the month of September. Considering the fact that this cancer kills millions of men globally, there is special care being taken to spread awareness and raise funds in order to initiate research to control and cure this disease. The modes adopted by people to lend their support to this cause are amazing and different. While some choose to grow only their moustaches, others choose to grow stubble by not shaving or trimming throughout the month of November. Some men go the color way, and choose to wear a blue band, imitating the pink accessories worn by women to support breast cancer. This step seems to have worked as the survival rate of prostrate cancer patient has increased in the last few years.
